For an Extra Boost in Hope

One of my all time favorite movies is Facing the Giants. It’s probably one of the cheesiest movies ever, but the message that it has is what makes it so great. If you’ve never seen the movie, it’s about Coach Grant Taylor and his football team. They haven’t won a game in a long time and Grant is about to lose his job because of it. He realizes that he needs to change the way he coaches his team. He decides to not only teach his team things about football, but to get them to apply those things into their lives. The main thing he teaches them is that with God nothing is impossible. Now this is the principle that I love about the movie. With God NOTHING is impossible. Think about that for a second. It seems crazy, but it’s true! I look back on my life and the times I’ve struggled the most are the times when I’m not reading my scriptures, going to the temple, and praying. It’s the little things that make the difference.

We will no doubt go through trials that are unimaginable to us now, but even through the hardest things, God will be there for us every step of the way. We just need to turn to him and he will help us carry our burdens. I know for some people, they feel like God has abandoned them. They feel like there is no hope. President Eyring puts it perfectly, “I cannot promise an end to your adversity in this life. I cannot assure you that your trials will seem to you to be only for a moment. One of the characteristics of trials in life is that they seem to make clocks slow down and then appear almost to stop. There are reasons for that. Knowing those reasons may not give much comfort, but it can give you a feeling of patience. Those reasons come from this one fact: in Their perfect love for you, Heavenly Father and the Savior want you fitted to be with Them to live in families forever. Only those washed perfectly clean through the Atonement of Jesus Christ can be there.” (“Mountains to Climb”, April 2012 General Conference). The atonement is not just there for us to repent; it is also there for comfort. Christ will “succor his people according to their infirmities”. He is going to RUN to us. Trust in the Lord and his timing. Stay strong in your faith and always remember that with God nothing is impossible. It will all be worth it in the end.
